സുഡാനിലെ രണ്ടു വൻശക്തികൾ അധികാരത്തിനു വേണ്ടി നടത്തുന്ന ആഭ്യന്തര യുദ്ധത്തിൽ ഇതുവരെ ആ രാജ്യത്തെ നാന്നൂറിലധികം ആളുകള്‍ കൊല്ലപ്പെടുകയും അയ്യായിരത്തോളം പേര്‍ക്ക് പരിക്കേല്‍ക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. വീടും ജീവനോപാധിയും നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് പലയിടങ്ങളിലും കുടുങ്ങിപ്പോയവരുടെ എണ്ണത്തില്‍ കണക്കുകളില്ല. ആയിരങ്ങൾ പലായനം ചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.രാജ്യം അതി ദാരിദ്ര്യത്തിലേക്ക് കൂപ്പുകുത്തി. പിടിച്ചുപറിയും കൊള്ളയും പതിവ് കാഴ്ചകളാണ്.
ചീറിപ്പായുന്ന വെടിയുണ്ടകൾക്ക് നടുവിൽ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അത്ഭുതകരമായ വിടുതലിന്റെ സാക്ഷ്യം പറയുകയാണ് കൊട്ടാരക്കര സ്വദേശിയായ തോമസ് വർഗീസും കുടുംബവും. തോമസ് വർഗീസും ഭാര്യ ഷീലാമ്മ തോമസും ഏക മകൾ ഷെറിനും ഉപജീവനമാർഗ്ഗം തേടി സുഡാനിൽ എത്തിയട്ട് 17 വർഷം പിന്നിട്ടിരുന്നു.അങ്ങനെ അവർ വളരെ സന്തോഷത്തോടെ കഴിയുമ്പോഴാണ് ഭീതിജനകമായ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളെ ഈ കുടുംബത്തിന് നേരിടേണ്ടി വന്നത്.
പെട്ടെന്നായിരുന്നു യുദ്ധമുണ്ടായത്. ഏപ്രിൽ 15ന് സുഡാന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ കാർത്തോമിലെ അൽഫൈസൽ ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിൽ നഴ്സായ ഷീലാമ്മ ജോലിക്കെത്തിയപ്പോഴാണ് ടെലിവിഷനിൽ യുദ്ധ രംഗങ്ങൾ കണ്ടത്. വേഗം വീട്ടിൽ തനിച്ചായിരുന്നു മകളോട് വിവരം പറഞ്ഞു.സംഭവം എന്തെന്ന് തിരക്കാൻ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഷെറിൻ കാതടപ്പിക്കുന്ന വെടിയൊച്ചകളും പുക ചുരുളുകൾ നിറഞ്ഞ പരിസരത്തെയുമാണ് നേരിടേണ്ടിവന്നത്.ഈ സമയം ജോലി സ്ഥലത്തു നിന്ന് പുറത്തിറങ്ങാൻ കഴിയാത്ത അവസ്ഥയിലായിരുന്നു തോമസ് വർഗീസ് .
വൈകാതെ ഷീലാമ്മയെ സമീപവാസികൾ ജോലി സ്ഥലത്തു നിന്നും മകളുടെ അടുത്തേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചു. പുറത്തിറങ്ങാതെ ഫ്ലാറ്റിനുള്ളിൽ തന്നെ കഴിയാനായിരുന്നു വേണ്ടപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ നിർദ്ദേശം. വീടിനു ചുറ്റും വെടിയൊച്ച ഇരമ്പി. ഉറക്കത്തിനിടെ വെടിയൊച്ചകൾ കേട്ട് ഞെട്ടി ഉണരും. തൊട്ടടുത്ത വീട്ടിലെ ജനൽത്തുളച്ചു വെടിയുണ്ട കയറി. മിസൈൽ വീണ് അടുത്തുള്ള ഫ്ലാറ്റ് തകർന്നു.ബോംബും മിസൈലും തകർത്താടിയ സുഡാനിലെ ഖാർത്തൂമിലെ ഫ്ലാറ്റിൽ അഞ്ചു ദിനരാത്രങ്ങളാണ് വൈദ്യുതിയോ വെള്ളമോ മറ്റു സൗകര്യങ്ങളോ ഇല്ലാതെ അമ്മയും മകളും കഴിഞ്ഞു കൂടിയത്. ഇത്രയും വലിയ പ്രതികൂല ഘട്ടത്തിൽ ദൈവാശ്രയമായിരുന്നു ഏക പോംവഴി. പ്രാർത്ഥനയോടെ ജീവിതം കഴിച്ചുകൂട്ടി.
ഇത്രയും പ്രതികൂലമായ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ സുഡാൻ സുരക്ഷിതമല്ലെന്നും ഇനി ഇവിടെ നിന്നാൽ ജീവൻ പോലും നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടുപോകുമെന്ന സ്ഥിതിയിലേക്ക് കാര്യങ്ങൾ എത്തി. നാട്ടിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നതാണ് സുരക്ഷിതമായ മാർഗ്ഗമെന്ന് വേണ്ടപ്പെട്ടവരിൽ നിന്ന് നിർദ്ദേശം ലഭിച്ചു.
അയൽവാസികളുടെ സഹായത്താൽ തോമസ് വർഗ്ഗീസിന്റെ ജോലി സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് ഭാര്യയും മകളും സുരക്ഷിതമായിഎത്തി. ഉടുതുണിയും അത്യാവശ്യം വസ്ത്രങ്ങളും മാത്രമാണ് വീട്ടിൽ നിന്ന് എടുക്കാനായത്. ഇന്ത്യൻ എംബസിയുടെയും സുഡാൻ ഭരണാധികാരികളുടെയും സഹായം കൊണ്ട് അതിർത്തി കടന്ന് ജിദ്ദയിൽ എത്തി. അവിടെനിന്നും ഡൽഹിയിലേക്കും പിന്നീട് നാട്ടിലേക്കും സുരക്ഷിതമായി എത്തി. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അത്ഭുതകരമായ കരുതലും വിടുതലും അനുഭവിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞതിന്റെ ആഹ്ലാദത്തിലാണ് തോമസ് വർഗീസും കുടുംബവും. ഈ കുടുംബം ഐ.പി.സി പത്തനാപുരം സെന്ററിലുള്ള വെട്ടിക്കവല നിരപ്പിൽ സഭാംഗങ്ങളാണ്.
